What was your job searching experience before and after you found Honest Jobs?
Daeqwon: “I got a domestic charge. This is the month my court date actually happens, June 23rd. To remind you, this happened almost a year ago. So I'm sitting for like a whole year. I'm applying to jobs and I'm not getting jobs. Or I’m getting the job, then I get the offer, contingent offer of course. Then they'll take it and they'll be like, “Sorry, we can't go through with the job offer we gave you.”
I even went through social services to try to get a job and still - I'm telling people, "I don't have a phone, I can't pay my phone bill because I don't have a job. I don't have money, so I cannot be in contact with jobs." I'm walking to search for jobs. I'm using the internet and that's so hard. I don't have no money to buy new clothes for interviews. So I'm like, “Oh my god, I don't have help from my family. How am I going to get a job?” Everything was very difficult, but luckily Honest Jobs really helped. The moment I went with them, they took me over to Mod Pizza. I had my interview with them and I got the job. I was very excited, very excited.”
Tell us about your new job!
Daeqwon: “I think the salary is $13.25 or $13.50. I pretty much like everything about it. The people are nice. The management is nice. We don’t get any rude customers.”
Would you recommend Honest Jobs to formerly incarcerated job seekers?
Daeqwon: “Yes, yes. I’ll recommend it to anybody who has any type felony or misdemeanor and is struggling trying to find a job. Go to Honest Jobs. Don’t do Indeed, don’t do anything else.
